Iran Mountains

Iran’s mountains belong to the Neogene era and especially the Miocene age, some of these mountains are of volcanic origin. Mount Taftan, a massive cone reaching 4,042 meters in southeastern Iran emits gas and mud at sporadic intervals. Mount Damavand with an altitude of 5,671 meters and one of the few volcanic mountains of Iran has been inactive since ancient time. beside Damavand, Mount Sablan with a height of 4,812 and Mount Sahand reaching 3,710 meters from the mean sea level are other notable examples of dormant volcanoes in Iran today.
