Shah Cheragh

Imam Reza, the 8th Shia Imam, was confined in Khorasan by the Khalifa, Ma’mon. During this confinement, Ahmad Ibn Musa with his brother Mohammad, decide to visit Imam Reza. As they start their journey from Hijaz, in each city many of their supporters join them and when they reach Iran the number of them is close to 15000 people. Khalifa that fears the outcome of this journey orders all governors to stop the travelers. This time, Ahmad and his followers are near Shiraz. The ruler of Shiraz gathers an army of 40000 soldiers ready to confront them. In the battle that takes place, the army of Shiraz is defeated. Understanding that battle will not lead to victory, the Governor starts spreading a rumor that Imam Reza is dead. Hearing this news many of Ahmad’s follower leave. Ahmad is forced to hide in the City. It takes the ruler one year to find Ahmad’s ware about but when he finds the house that he was hiding in he orders an attack. In the battle that follows Ahmad is mortally wounded. The governor orders the house to be destroyed over the dead body and left as it is. Almost 40 years later, the new Ruler of Shiraz starts making new buildings in the place of the city’s old ruins, when they dig the mound that was left of a house they find the intact body of a handsome man with a sword wound and a ring with his name. the new ruler is deeply moved by what has happened and orders a mausoleum to be built in the place that today is referred to as Shah Cheragh.
